Copies of letters, 1703-1779, from the letterbooks of the Society for the Propogation of the Gospel in Foriegn Parts, probably transcribed some time during the 1850s, and pertaining to Ecclesiastical matters and missionary activities in North Carolina. Volume includes letters from clergy, missionaries, and North Carolina colonial officials addressed to the Society, the Lord Bishop of London, the Lord Commissioners for Trade and Plantation, and English church officials, concerning the state and progress of missions in North Carolina, as well as petitions and appeals for assistance and for qualified clergymen to be sent to the residents of the colony by the English church. Included are letters by John Urmston, Gabriel Johnston, Clement Hall, William Gordon, James Moir, and Governors Arthur Dobbs, William Tryon, Richard Everard, et al.
